LASU Students Win National Moot Court Competition
Students from Lagos State University (LASU) have recently emerged winners of the Moot Court competition for law students across Nigeria's six geographical zones.
The winning team, consisting of David Akinwunmi, Johnson Ogundein, and Adeyemi Soffiyah, triumphed over students from the law faculties of 12 other universities. They argued a case titled "Copyright and Patents Infringement" to secure their victory.
The keenly contested competition, which aims to sharpen the skills of prospective lawyers, was held at the Dr. Olusegun Law Resource Centre, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.
This marks the fourth consecutive victory for LASU in inter-varsity moot court competitions during this academic session. In May, LASU law students also emerged first among 52 universities in a moot court competition held at Redeemer's University, Ede, Osun State.
According to the University of Oxford, a moot court competition simulates a court hearing (usually an appeal against a final decision), in which participants analyse a problem, research the relevant law, prepare written submissions, and present oral arguments.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, congratulated the students, noting that their achievement reinforces LASU's reputation as the best university to study law in Nigeria.
Professor Kareem Olatoye, Dean of the Faculty of Law, also expressed his happiness and congratulated the students on their outstanding performance.
