Multi-Award-Winner gives tips on how to become globally competitive as a student

Emmanuela Ilok

A Female Lead Ambassador of Greensprings IB School, Emmanuela Ilok, is setting the stage for students' success on a global scale.

Drawing from her own remarkable achievements as a Yale Young African Scholars Social Impact Award Winner and a Cambridge Outstanding Learner Award Winner, Emmanuela has revealed key skills that can propel students to international excellence.

The Greensprings IB Diploma programme, a dynamic two-year sixth-form initiative, is a transformative pathway designed to equip secondary school students with the tools they need for success in tertiary institutions and beyond.

During a recent panel session at the 10th Annual Parenting Conference by LagosMums, Emmanuela, the 2022 Rise Global Winner, unveiled her winning formula.

She emphasised that Value-based Education (VbE), effective communication, and a service-oriented mindset are the cornerstones of her academic accomplishments and global recognition.

Emmanuela painted a vivid picture of the significance of these skills, underscoring the instrumental role played by her parents and her alma mater in nurturing them.

Effective communication, in Emmanuela's view, is the mainstay of global competitiveness; noting that it empowers individuals to articulate their thoughts to the world.

She described effective communication as a competence that is integral to personal and professional success.

Also, Emmanuela recounted how Greensprings School instills this skill from an early age, fostering confidence through internal events, external competitions, and speech and debate clubs.

"This approach significantly reduces stage fright and amplifies students' self-assurance," she said.

Moving on to the second essential skill, Emmanuela highlighted the importance of moral and ethical values.

She attributed her own commendable conduct to her parents' unwavering support and her 15-year association with Greensprings School, where she absorbed the institution's core values.

While she praised the school's commitment to instilling responsible digital citizenship and upholding moral values in online interactions, she emphasized the invaluable role this plays in character development.

Furthermore, Emmanuela extolled the virtues of engagement in community service activities, which bestows students with a competitive edge, particularly through the IB Diploma Programme.

Through Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) projects, this program, she said, nurtures civic engagement; an attribute deemed essential for global relevance.

She further emphasized that a service-oriented approach fosters empathy, altruism, and a proclivity to make a positive impact in communities.

With these three indispensable skills, Emmanuela believes that students will be well-prepared to take the global stage by storm.

LagosMums, a nurturing community for mums, parents, and caregivers, provides invaluable resources, coaching, and updates to support parents.
